Abstract

The Grid Tie-connected PLTS system is more profitable in terms of cost and investment than a stand-alone system, because it does not require a battery medium to store the electrical energy. In the installation process it can be done with a micro inverter configuration, each photovoltaic module is directly connected to the main electricity grid network through an inverter and with a string inverter configuration, several photovoltaic modules are arranged in series or parallel, then connected to the main electricity grid network through an inverter.
This study uses an experimental method by installing a photovoltaic module in a micro inverter and string inverter configuration. Measurements include voltage, current, power, electrical energy (kWh) and power factor at predetermined measurement points. The analysis was carried out under a variety of weather conditions, whether sunny, cloudy or rainy to obtain the efficiency of the generated electrical energy and tested both configuration models to obtain significance values for these two configurations.
The micro inverter configuration has better performance in various weather conditions, and has a significant difference compared to the string inverter of 9.93%. In sunny weather conditions, the micro inverter also produces better electric power by 20.43%. In contrast, in cloudy weather conditions, the string inverter configuration resulted in a better electric power performance of 14.97%. Photovoltaic modules with a micro inverter configuration have an average efficiency of 10.03% -11.4% while string inverters have an average efficiency of 7.17% -9%. The power factor for the micro inverter configuration is 0.35 and the string inverter has a power factor of 0.4.
