Abstract

This thesis discusses the improvement of dynamic stability in electric power systems. To improve the dynamic stability of the electric power system, additional control is used in the form of a Power System Statilizer (PSS) which is optimized using the Hybrid Differential Evolution - Particle Swarm Optimization (DE-PSO) metaheuristic algorithm. The results of this analysis are in the form of a comparison of a system without control, a system with conventional PSS control and a system with PSS optimized using the hybrid DE-PSO algorithm. The analysis was conducted to see the oscillatory response of the system due to dynamic load changes of 0.01 p.u., 0.05 p.u. and 0.10 p.u. The results obtained in this study, the system controlled by PSS with hybrid DE-PSO algorithm tuning produces a smaller overshoot damping response and faster setting time compared to the system without control and the system with conventional PSS control.
