Abstract
Excessive sun exposure has a very bad impact on health, especially on the face. Therefore, pineapple peel extract (Ananas comosus L. Merr) is an active ingredient in the formulation of sunscreen gel preparations, which contains flavonoids, tannins, and saponins which have sunscreen activity. The research method included identifying pineapple plant samples and then carrying out a phytochemical screening test to determine the compounds contained in the extract. then evaluate the formulation of pineapple gel preparations, which includes an examination of organoleptic, pH, spreadability, and viscosity, stability test of pineapple gel preparations for 8 weeks, and measuring the SPF value of pineapple peel extract and pineapple gel preparations using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer, as well as the irritation test on pineapple gel preparations using the Draize method. The research showed that pineapple peel extract contains flavonoids, tannins and saponins. The pineapple gel preparation has a soft thick texture, a clear yellow color, and a distinctive pineapple odor. The stability test showed that the pineapple gel preparation remained stable for eight weeks. SPF measurements show that
pineapple peel extract and pineapple gel preparations have quite high SPF values. Irritation tests on experimental animals show that the pineapple gel preparation is
safe to use topically. In conclusion, pineapple peel extract has the potential as an
active ingredient in sunscreen gel formulations. The pineapple gel preparation has
good characteristics and stability for 8 weeks. The use of pineapple peel extract in sunscreen gel preparations can provide effective and safe protection against UV
radiation.
