Abstract

Electricity safety is a security measures against electrical power installations, electrical equipment and electrical users to realize reliable, safe, and good conditions for users. One of the things done to prevent electrical hazards is to make grounding of electrical installations and equipment into the ground. This research aims to determine the feasibility level of a grounding system that has been installed for more than 30 years and to determine the feasibility level of a new grounding system by considering the effect of variations in soil type, variations in electrode type, electrode size and electrode installation method on the measurement results of the grounding system resistance value according to PUIL 2020. In this study, the measurement results obtained on the existing grounding system which has a service life of more than 30 years will experience an increase in the resistance value of 6-7 52, which is declared unfit for operation in accordance with PUIL 2020. Based on the results of measurements that have been carried out on the new grounding system using the Copper Coated Iron Rod Electrode method, Diameter 5/8 inch, Length 1.5 meters, Parallel Method with Copper Rod Electrode, Diameter 5/8 inch, Length 4 meters, Parallel Method will obtain a resistance value of less than 1 9. This is due to the influence of the depth of the installed electrodes and the parallel method which is getting more and more, will further reduce the resistance value of a grounding system, and will be more effective in delivering electric current to the earthing system. This research is expected to be used as a reference regarding the planning of a building grounding system in the future.
