Abstract

In this era of globalization, we are required to always step faster in the competition for energy development, especially alternative energy between countries today, so that the benefits of environmentally friendly and renewable energy are a concern in its development, one of which is a fuel cell that uses electrodes with saltwater media through the process electrochemical reactions so as to produce electrical energy, where the electrical energy generated from saltwater and seawater is very easy to obtain. The purpose of writing this thesis is to know and compare between saltwater or seawater which is good for use in fuel cells and the amount of electrical energy produced by 5 fuel cells arranged in series to be able to charge a 5 AH,12 VDC capacity battery and how long it can produce energy electricity with 5 pieces of 12VDC lamps, 5 Watt during 8 days. In the design of an alternative power plant with saltwater electrodes using this fuel cell can produce 0,13 Ampere of electric current, so the length of time for the fuel cell in the battery charger to be empty is 38 hours 24 minutes. With a 5 AH, 12 VDC battery
capacity and converted using an inverter with a 500 Watt capacity, this circuit can operate household appliances such as laptops, PC computers, handphones, power banks, LED lights, and so on with limited usage time. In the future, I hope that the Design of
Alternative Power Plants with Saltwatersourced Electrodes can be used for research
objects in the Universitas Global Jakarta.
