Abstract

Pellets are cylindrical or tube-shaped rations with a certain diameter, or round in shape containing complete nutrients that are previously formulated to meet the needs of small ruminants (goats) and as biomass. Biomass is organic material produced through the photosynthesis process, either in the form of products or waste. Examples of biomass include plants, trees, grass, sweet potatoes, agricultural waste, forest waste, feces and livestock manure. Apart from being used for food, animal feed, vegetable oil, building materials and so on, biomass is also used as a source of energy (fuel). The problem of continuous shortage of forage, especially during the dry season, is a serious challenge in ruminant animal feed management. The aim of this research was to examine the physical properties (Physical Properties of Stack Density, Specific Gravity, Texture and Water Content) of a mixture of three ingredients (legumes, young papaya and cassava leaves). The research used a Single Factor Randomized Block Design (RAK) with 10 treatments. The research results showed that legume-based peilets with a mixture of young papaya and cassava leaves (P9) were an effective and efficient alternative animal feed.
