Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease that has a risk of developing various complications. Complications that arise can increase the number of drug prescriptions so that there is the potential for drug interactions to occur. Drug interactions are defined as changes in the effect of one drug due to the presence of another drug. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the number of drugs and the potential for drug interactions. The type of research used was observational with a cross sectional design. Data were collected retrospectively during the period September
2022 - February 2023. In this study, 142 samples met the inclusion criteria, 22 patients did not experience drug interactions and 120 patients experienced drug interactions with 332 interaction events. examination of drug interactions in this study using Lexicomp Drug Interaction. From the results of the study, the predominant type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients were aged 25-64 years (70.42%) and 65 years (29.57%). The majority of patients
received the number of drugs ≥5 (50.70%) and 2-4 (49.30%), with the highest sex being female (58.45%) and male (41.55%). The results of this study found a significant relationship between the amount of drug use and the potential for drug interactions based on the Risk Rating with a p value of 0.007.
