Abstract
Worm disease is a world health problem. About 1.5 billion people, or 24% of the world's population, especially children, experience helminthiasis. More than 267 million preschool-age children and more than 588 million school-age children are infected with parasitic worms. Papaya flowers (Carica papaya L.) contain alkaloid bioactive compounds such as carpaine, pseudocarpaine and dehydrocarpaine. These alkaloids are believed to be useful as anti-dengue, anticancer, antimicrobial, antiparasitic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antidiabetic activities. (Faith Mukhaimin
et al., 2018). The purpose of this study was to determine the anthelmintic power of the ethanol extract of papaya flowers (Carica papaya L.) against roundworm Ascaridia
galli in vitro and the LC50 and LT50 values of the ethanol extract of papaya flowers. The
anthelmintic test was divided into 9 treatment groups, namely 5 groups of papaya flower ethanol extract (concentration 10 mg/ml, 20 mg/ml, 30 mg/ml, 40 mg/ml, 50 mg/ml), 1 normal control (0.9% NaCl) and 3 groups positive control (pyrantel pamoat 0.2%,0.4%, 0.6%). Time and number of deaths were recorded and calculated by probit analysis. The results showed that the time of death for each treatment was significantly different when compared to the normal control. The LC50 value of the ethanol extract of papaya flowers (Carica papaya L.) on Ascaridia galli is 1.528 mg/ml while the LT50 value is 20 hours 54 minutes. This shows that the extract has anthelmintic activity.
