Abstract

Research has been carried out that aims to determine the value of the viscosity of an oil. The method in this research is to drop the ball freely into the oil fluid and monitor it using an Android-based UGN3503 sensor. To be able to determine the speed of the falling ball, outside the pipe is given a sensor to get the ball travel time from point one to point two at a certain height distance, so that the data travel time of the ball falling (1) and the distance traveled (h) are obtained. The value of the fluid viscosity coefficient is determined based on the equation of the forces acting on the magnetic ball moving in the pipe. These forces include buoyancy, friction based on Stokes' law, and gravity. From the time obtained by Arduino and sent to the Android, the Andoid will process the data and display the smartphone screen, based on research on federal oil, the higher the type of oil, the higher the viscosity level, such as 1. Federal oil type Matic 30 Eco maxx with a viscosity value = 168,633 Pa/s, 2. Federal oil type Matic Ultratec 10W-30 with a viscosity value = 227,210 Pa/s, 3. Federal oil type Matic Ultratec 20W-50 with a viscosity value = 415,098 Pa/s. And oil that has been used for 1 month, the viscosity value will decrease, such as Federal Oil type Matic 30 Eco maxx (used for 1 month) with a viscosity value = 107,726 Pa/s and with this study, viscosity measurement becomes easier with a smartphone or andorid.
