Abstract
Very Small Aperture Terminal or what is usually called VSAT is a type of telecommunications technology that uses satellites as a transmission medium. VSAT can serve various communications needs such as data, voice, image and video communications. When installing a VSAT, a pointing process is required or directing the VSAT towards the target satellite. This aims to ensure that the signal generated has good quality and stability so that the output is good. Currently only part of the geostationary VSAT type has been integrated with a motorized auto pointing system, most still use manual pointing by humans. This is because the cost of motorized auto pointing is expensive. In this research, the author used the mix method method. The author conducted a literacy study on previous research which was then developed and adapted to needs in the field. After that, the design process is carried out, designing up to testing which is still in the form of prototyping. The results of the trial will produce auto pointing and senior pointing parameters which can be written mathematically. In this research the author used an Arduino Mega 6250 microcontroller which is supported by several sensors such as GPS NEO6MV2 as GPS detection, MPU6050 as elevation detection and HMC5883L as azimuth detection which are all programmed using C++ language. The results of this program showed that the accuracy of reading elevation angles and azimuth directions was up to 2 digits after the comma, and the auto pointing test error rate was less than 1%. In conclusion, this prototype can be applied to the geostationary VSAT type, but with a note that there is a need for adjustments to the mechanics, then the components used, although low cost, can perform the work function well.
