Abstract
The increasing interaction between Medical representatives and Pharmacists should
contribute to more rational drug use. This research aims to evaluate the attitudes and
perceptions of pharmacists. Concerns arise about the potential negative impact of reward
acceptance given by Medical representatives on drug dispensing and procurement. Using
a cross-sectional survey design, a questionnaire (n=244) was completed by pharmacists
to assess their attitudes and perceptions towards drug promotion, appropriateness, and
acceptance of rewards from Medical representatives. A total of 244 pharmacists
participated in this study, with the majority of respondents being female (84.4%) and aged
30-39 years (45.5%). Around 54.9% of pharmacists agreed that the information provided
by Medical representatives was of good quality, and 81.9% agreed that the information
from Medical representatives was useful for introducing new drugs. Additionally, 41.4%
agreed that receiving rewards increased the likelihood of pharmacists recommending the
drug. Moreover, 72.2% agreed that the seminars were more about promoting the
company's products, and 47.1% of pharmacists had received education on pharmaceutical
promotion ethics. The most suitable rewards, according to pharmacists, were SKPaccredited seminars (69.3%), stationery (53.7%), and drug samples (51.6%). The
researchers found that most respondents received quality information from medical
representatives, useful for introducing new drugs. They also noted that most
pharmaceutical company seminars focused on promoting their products. This underscores
the need for ethical guidelines to regulate the interactions between healthcare
professionals and pharmaceutical companies.
