Cases of drug interactions are one of eight categories of drug-related problems
that can affect patient clinical outcomes. The increasing complexity of the drugs used in
current medicine and the trend towards pharmaceutical practice, have resulted in many
drug interactions. Cytochrome P450 is the main enzyme that plays a role in 75% of drug
metabolism in the liver. The process of drug metabolism by CYP enzyme inhibition
causes reduced metabolism, so that drugs accumulate in the body, while CYP enzyme
induction can reduce drug concentrations and effects in plasma. This makes cytochrome
P450 enzymes involved in many drug interactions.
This study aims to determine the relationship between cytochrome P450-
mediated drug-drug interactions and to determine the relationship between the number
of drug items and the severity of cytochrome P450-mediated drug interactions. This
study used a sample of geriatric patients at the inpatient pharmacy installation at X
Hospital between January 2022-January 2023, with a total of 101 patients.
This study uses the Pearson Chi-Square Test as a test tool for analyzing the
relationship between variables. The results of this study indicate that Drug Items have a
relationship with Risk Rating (p=0,000), but have no correlation with Severity (p=0,541)
and Reability (p=0,880).
